Here's a few pics of items to be displayed in the diorama; I want to add depth to the interest; not do the typical, predicable usual crap I've seen with dio's. I wanted to go further than simply putting my models on a shelf, and with this, I wanted to also go further than simply putting a chain/rope around a few cars. There was a lot more than that going on at the shows I remember; so ... I wanted to put some of that "vibe" into this .... plus... I wanted the flexibility to change vendors & cars shown. - I'm doing a few vendors, I just finished this airbrushed T-shirt sign for it, to go with the shirt on the wooden stand. The sign is maybe 3 1/2- 4 inches & made to look a little used ..... the shirt is tiny, made of cardboard & paper & a decal ( 1/25th; as is all the other stuff I made ). The parts display cabinet ( balsa, plastic ) is made for the Karbelt Speed & Custom vendor booth ( The sign, I'll post later ) The curtain... I made a bunch of these, to be placed as needed. More To come & I'll post the entire display as it comes together. I've painted up a bunch of figures & other stuff..... Oh, & the arcade game was a printable I got off the net; it was a project in itself, a little bit of fiddling; but I think it'll look neat in the corner ( with a kid playing it ) ; once I clean it up a little & trim it. It was printed on photo paper, cut out, folded, assembled & a bit of balsa was added to the inside to give it some structure & weight.

AND ...... curtain panels - a few these were printed after choosing a suitable curtain pattern online, sizing & making balsa wood bases; these will be placed as needed

Go Rick! That's the difference between something to just show off a car or two and a real diorama where real life gets shrunk down to scale.

Thanks Harley, after seeing your dio of the bike/street scene; I know you "get it" . This is designed to be more or less late 70's, but I'm not really worrying about everything being perfect, or even close to correct - just look cool !!! I want it to have the flexibility of change, built in. I really love the idea of planning for it to never be really finished; it will keep it fresh; keep the ideas flowing & keep it fun !!!

Well, I'm still plugging away at the dio - I ended up making a new sign for the t-shirt booth - I wanted something a little more colorful / less green & Changed the name to Weirdo T-shirts..... The capital "K" in the Krazy name, looked odd near the other "K" ; on the Karbelt sign. I made a guardrail up for my dragstrip booth ( as seen in Straightline modeler's how-to section ) - I'm really happy with the results - such a simple & effective little prop. I'm keeping a list going of all details to be added & making stuff as I go - more pics soon - this weekend - I think the last booth will be either a hobby store type booth; or an AMT/MPC booth -

A few of the "early stage" / "Setup day" ... pics of the dio - Here's the new Airbrushed T-shirt sign, The Sammy Ace Hobbies sign , both airbrushed & in the case of the Hobby shop sign, logos added, as well as a copper strip to add interest. I made an airbrush for the artist, using wire & tube. The Kat from AMT, was a pic I printed, mounted on foam board, The cases of models, are pics I printed & made a case from cardboard. I got Big Daddy from the Surfite kit, but, he is pretty large .... I know he was a big man in real life ( around 6'4" - 6'5" ) , but this figure is really pushing it ( it measures about 7'2" scale ) .... we'll see how he looks; once a bunch more figures are in the dio. The both figures shown, will get their base removed & replaced with clear plastic. I'll roll out the pics as I go with this; it's already further than these pics; ..... the next bunch will be soon. Oh, this dio, is located in an odd, but pretty cool looking spot ! .... it is a built in shadow box, built into the wall, going down to the basement. It is - 3 feet 9 inches Length X 21 inches Deep X 12 inches Height.

Wot? No Booth Babe for Sammy's stall? Or Booth Booze? Great detail but lacking some realism I fear!

These pics are showing the rough planning involved with this project. One of the main factors, is the placement, the second being what models will look best among others; the next thing to consider is colors of the cars & how this will work with all colors to be used in display & how these will effect to the overall result. finally, the show displays for each car, or group of cars, stanchions, lighting, trophies & figures. The entire thing will continue to evolve & change - cars will be taken out, cars will be added; I'm sure that those who are much more familiar with diorama projects, would do things in another more organized fashion, I prefer to do it this way, do a "staging", take notes of what is missing, or needed & add, or subtract as I go.
