By Chuck Darnell - The decal was done on an ALPS MD-5000 in gold foil ... There were originally 3 sets of decals made.... the 1st set I dropped a piece of 3M fine line masking tape on ..(man was I stupid for even having them close to where I was working) The designer kept a set for himself and the last set went on this project.. I would compare their application to working with wet tissue paper .. very, very, then and very fragile ...I dropped a few coats of clear over them just for a little added protection .. Also , before painting this project I contacted the present owner of Dick's ZL1 , Bill Porterfield. Bill gave me the phone number of the body shop out west that did the restoration on the 1:1 .... I had the House of Kolors paint mixed and laid the same number of coats from the kandy paint that's on the original now.. The only thing I didn't anticipate was how dark it would be on such a small area .. however it really pops in the sunlight just like the 1:1 ... I'm not sure if you can see it in the photo's but all the plastic was removed between all the grill bars to allow a 3rd dimension look to the nose ( I broke about 6 grills making this attempt!).. the hood scoop was drawn on a piece of paper then transfered to a .005" clear essay jacket I bought at Staples .. then it was cut out and folded to make a replica of the one piece lexan hood scoop .. I love it as I am a big ZL1 fan, oustanding build.
Cheers Tony.
