Well folks, it’s a hot Sunday for the end of June and I’ve been spending the day in my nice cool basement. I’m working on finishing touches on a couple of car models and while waiting for glue and paint to dry , I thought I would do some long awaited –n- needed repairs on a old balsa stick –n- tissue model plane that I had built many years ago. It has had its share of what we call “Hanger Rash” I don’t know just how many times I broke off a wing or two. It’s has some holes in the tissue covering. So here it is again all fix up, sort of. About a 1909 (give or take a few years) Bleriot XI. This was an R/N kit. I don’t think their still in business any more. It is meant for indoor flight, by rubber band or Co2 motor or with today’s electric powered small R/C motors and radio gear, I guess you could convert it for that too. Mine is just for static display. The wing span is 26 “long 61/2 “wide. The fuselage is from end of rudder to tip of the prop is 23” long. The kit came with solid black painted wooden wheels. I used some motor cycle’s tires but the ones I first used never match. Now they do. The kits landing gear was made from hard wood but I made my own from brass and aluminum tubing. The gas tank was made from a wooden dole. The seat from balsa wood too. Added some black thread for the rigging and done. You can see the tissue patch job but I think in time (lots of it again) It’ll start to match. And then again back in the old days they were always patching things up on them old planes.
