TAPE MARKS THE SPOT!When I put the Attempt Racer in the back of the Modified Transporter and it looked too tall. So I decided to Section the body about 1/4". I started by wrapping some 1/4" tape around the middle of the body... I drew lines on both sides of the tape and then removed the tape... SLICING NEXT...

CUTTIN' IT UP!I used a Cut-Off Wheel in the Dremel Tool to cut along the Bottom Line. I cut the Bottom off first to put less stress on that section. I left the Line on the bottom section so that I know how close to 1/4" the cut is. If you go past the Line you have lost that reference point. The second cut was done the same way. I put the body halves on a sheet of 100 Grit Sandpaper and Carefully Sanded the Cuts down Smooth. Then I attached the body halves with Zap-A-Gap-Green Label. More Coming...

PRIME TIME AGAIN!I sanded the body sides down level with a Sanding Block and then used 220 Sandpaper all over. Next I applied putty and let it dry. Sanded it smooth again with 220 Sandpaper. Here is the body after Filler/Primer has been appled. Now that's a Low Body... More Coming...

OK Ira, I was a smart ass and said to finish this thing, I think back on page 3, so I'm glad to see you are back on it. I have to admit I did like it with the fins, but the whole package does flow better with them gone. Especially with the car body sectioned. ( I know, I'm not telling you nuthin ) We missed seeing you here for a while. You're an influence to us all, whether you want to be or not. haha Even if we don't build the same kind of stuff or not, building is building. Thanks Ira, once again you inspired me to get back at it. PS: Great to see you building something that runs on the ground again, of course you're not finished yet haha Lookin good!

SPOILER GATE!I cut the ends off of the Indy Vette Spoiler to fit the tail gate. I cut the inside curved edge of the Spoiler with straight lines. Then I marked the shape of the New Edge on a strip of 5/16" wide plastic... Here is the Strip in place on the Spoiler. Here is the Spoiler on the Tail Gate.! A little more Putty and Sanding and the Body Work is Done! More Coming...

UNDERBODY MODS!The Old Underbody doesn't fit the New Rear End. Looks like if I cut these corners off it should be a close fit... With a little filing and sanding, I got it to fit real nice! I think I will be working on making room for and mounting the 4 rear tires next... More Coming...

More Underbody Mods...I test fit the Wheels in the Body with the Underbody in place and cut away enough plastic to clear the Wheels. Next I cut 2 lengths of aluminum tubing for the axle tubes and glued them in place. I'm using 5/16" strips of plastic to fill the gap between the Body and the Underbody. Here is the first side glued in place. More Coming...

BIG TRUCK PIPES!I found some Great Exhaust Pipes in the AMT Silhouette kit, they remind me of the BiG Vertical Pipes on Semi Trucks. Unfortunately when I fit them on the Transports Body, they stuck out too much. So I decided to use the Silhouette's Side Panels to mount the Pipes. I cut out the Side Panels with a Cut-Off Wheel in a Dremel Tool. Next, I sanded down the edges of both Side Panels so that both Side Panels were exactly the same shape. I used the Left Side Panel,Up-Side Down, on the Right Side to mark the "Cut-Out" Lines , then I did the same for the Left Side. More Coming...

FIT IT IN!I cut out the marked areas with a Cut-Off Wheel in a Dremel Tool. Then I used an X-acto knife to do the small corner cuts. Next I used an X-acto Knife and Sanding Boards to match the Cut-Out Areas to the Side Panels. Here is a Side Panel in place. Here is a Mock-Up Photo showing the Side Pipes in place. More Coming...

MAKE IT THICK!When I did a Wheel Fit Check, I noticed that the Body Sides looked Very Long and Thin. So I decided to add Strip Plastic to the bottom edge of the Body. I did the strips in 2 pieces, first I glued down the Straight Plastic Strip , in the rear, on each side. Then I glued in the Curved Plastic Strips in front of the Rear Strips. Here is the side view of the New Thicker Body! More Coming...

GIVE ME A FIN!I thought a Fin might look good on the Vette/Attemp Racer, so I traced a few Fin Shapes on a Post-It-Note... I transferred the paper shape on to file card and cut it out. I fit it to the body and refined the shape. Then I traced the file card shape on to plastic and cut it out. Then I beveled the outside edges with an X-acto Knife and Sanding Sticks. I marked the center line on the body and did some more fitting with the Fin. Then I glued the Fin in place with Zap-A-Gap, Green Label. Here is the Fin in place! More Coming...

WHERE THE WHEELS GO...I did a little measuring and I drew in outside corner lines. Then I traced the oval shapes, using the Template. Next using Needle Scribe I lightly scribed the oval shapes, several times, with the Template. Then I used the larger Scribe and enlarged the Scribed Lines. I sanded the Scribed Lines down nice and smooth. Then I went over the Lines a few more times with the Large Scribe. I found some Low Rider Tires that are the perfect size for the Racer! More Coming...

THE WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED!The Attempt Body was from a built up kit from Ebay. The Windshield was cracked, so I glued it in and started sanding... Added a little Squadron Putty... After a little more Sanding and some Primer, here is the new Windshield compared to the original! I will mask the windshield area and spray it Gloss Black. Here is a Mock-Up on the body. More Coming...

Interesting, sort of "slammer" style then you wouldn't have to mess with an interior if you didn't want to. I have extra windshields if you still rather go another direction with it. I used to produce a resin dragboat kit, and for the canopies I used Squadron Thermaform, remember that stuff. Then they discontinued it, and now I save as much clear vacuformed plastic as I can and use it in the same manner, by heating it over a candle and stretching it over the part. I call it a poor mans vacuform. (look at me ,giving the Master tips, what an ego, haha) no offense Ira, I know you are familiar with that process. This is a cool project. Jim

Jim Thanks for the Suggestion Jim!The original plan was to pull a new Thermaform Canopy, but I couldn't get the bottom edge to pull in tight at the bottom. The kit windshield is so small, you can't really see much of the interior. I'm going to paint a new windshield shape, we will see how that goes...
