Got it done, and it didn't really put up too much of a fight: I used a lot of thinned out craft paint on the chrome. Had to really grind a lot of meat out of the bottom of the floor boards to make it all fit together. Then I had to go to town on the topside of the tranny. The paint is all Testors except the base coat of the wooden parts which is Tremclad. I added an aluminum distributor and some wires. There is not much space between the engine and the cowl.

I have never built this kit, but I do like how yours turned out. Sounds like you had pile of styrene dust left over. Looks great!
