R/C Ducked Fan Ice Racer # 2
My work in progress. I believe I can make this one 75% liter that the original. Still powered by the same electric Ducked fan unit as the first one. I started out by laying out a blue print to build off of for the main chassis or frame making sure everything is in alignment. Laying out in full size where my battery and servos, receiver, ESC etc. will be place. From there I just build as I go, making templates from hard paper. Then if I like it, I transfer the pattern onto foam core poster board. The 3 main strips of wood making up the frame is ¼ X ¼ hard wood as well as the rear where the runners and wheels will be attach. The hatch is made up from foam core poster board formers with 1/8” round doles. That part will get handled a lot so I made it more durable and will be held on by magnets. The rest of the construction will be done with balsa wood. I chose to make up the fuselage a bit different than the last. A bit more challenging. It’s looking a bit wider that what I had pictured in my head but it does give me plenty of room to work with the inner control components. Once I get the new fan unit to work with, some of the body shape may change. So far it’s coming up with 37 ¼ “long. 10 ¼ “ wide at the rear with 2” round up front. The chrome nose cone was one of them gum ball like plastic globe prize thingy. This craft will sit much lower to the ground that than first one. It does have a flat bottom now but that will change too as I get along in the building process. The driver will be setting on top of my steering servo held in place by some Velcro. I don’t think using a magnet that close to the servo will be a healthy idea.
