The Bosozoku (literally: "violent running gangs") were bad news in '70's Japan, they were aggressive, anti-authority and a recruiting ground for the Yazuka (Japanese mafia). Their bikes reflected this and were built to outrage/ offend mainstream society. Usually based around home market 250s and 400s (anything bigger being massively expensive), a typical custom job would involve: - bending the licence plate in half to make it harder to read (or removing it completely), - angling the indicators upwards (no idea where that came from), - fitting a new seat, - fitting an apocalyptically loud exhaust, - splashing on a custom paint job, - fitting bars that actually made it harder to control the bike, - fitting extra horns and/ or PA systems, - fitting a pole to the front forks to allow a flag to be flown (usually at a standstill but, for the truly dedicated/ deranged, on the move as well), - if you had a few yen lying around, fitting weird body kits, and - making sure your trusty baseball bat was readily accessible. This is a pretty mild version of a Bosozoku bike but the last shot shows some more extreme versions that I built a long time ago. Sayonara suckers!

Thanks guys. The cars came a bit later once the Police had really clamped down on the gangs and they had morphed into a sort of benign youth culture, like rockers or the kawai scene. The cars, and indeed vans, are every bit as crazy as the bikes and the owners seem determined to bugger up their handling completely with insane wheel angles and slammed suspension. Not to be confused with the sort of cars that appear in the Fast and Furious films - that's a very different culture!

Stay away from the dark side my friend. It's not worth it. Hey buddy, great build. I look forward to the 1:1 version you and Joe put together.
