Here we have a Suzuki TM400 (Revell's 1/12 version to be precise). If ever a bike deserved the name "Widowmaker", this was it. Power delivery was on or off, the brakes were marginal, it was too heavy and both frame and swinging arm were no match for the engine's output. When angry (and often damaged) customers complained to Suzuki, their response was "Well, it's not our fault if you're not skilled enough to ride it, don't forget - the World Champion rides one." Which was sort of true, but the World Champion's bike had very little in common with what a punter would get (interestingly, Revell's version of the World Champion's bike actually includes some of the mods needed to control the stock machine). So, it's pretty much out of the box but with detail added where Revell left it out (or got it wrong) and just enough weathering to suggest the owner hasn't been bitten(yet!).

Thanks guys. I don't know about perfection Rick, there's the usual list of stuff I wish I'd done differently (or Revell had done at all....) but I think it came out OK.

This came out better than "OK" this is beautiful. It's my all time favorite 1 to 1 dirt bike. I've owned two, (one stock like this and one that was converted to a flat tracker) This is a reminder that I have to build my kit, and you can bet your MX boots, I will use this as reference. (I'm not sure if my decals are good).
My favorite dirt bike, built by my favorite model builder.
Cheers Harley!

I doff my cap to anyone who's ridden one of these beasts in anger and still has all their body parts intact! The decals with this kit were pretty rough but I gave 'em a coat of Microscale Liquid Decal Film and that seemed to keep them together - it did take about 15 minutes for the glue to give up its grip but I only had one small tear to deal with and the Decal Film didn't seem to cause any problems over the compound curves. Otherwise just the usual early Revell fit issues, chrome that flaked off as soon as you touched it, mounting points that weren't there and getting rid of the kit's tubing for cables to sort out!
