I never really cared for the Fire Iron kit , maybe it was the dark looking box art photo, all the gold plating against the dark red , the spoked front wheels - it just turned me off from ever buying it. I thought the Fire Cracker looked better with the steamroller tires and I jumped at the chance to buy a supposed good rebuilder from a guy on a Facebook model site. Well I got it, but it was far from good, and actually far from a rebuilder too. Luckily a friend from another site had a Fire Iron and we struck a deal. I planned on painting it bright red until I put a flat white primer on it, and it looked good in white (to me, anyway) . Because there was so much gold plating , I painted some of the plated parts with chrome Alclad ; other plated parts were hit with Dullcote to take the shine out, and some faded gold parts were used from junk Fire Cracker ,which set them off from the new plated parts. The seat was painted with some old watercolor paint which gave it a look of a faded red leather. The decals had darkened edges, which seems to be a common issue with this particular kit, so I didn't clearcoat it in case it gets reissued again and I can get new ones . I hope you guys like it !

Looks great Don, and I especially like the white! I have originals of the Fire Cracker, I hated that they changed it to the Fire Iron.

I must have missed the Fire Cracker when it was released , but I also think they messed it up when they changed the wheels for the Fire Iron. Maybe if I ever end up with a Fire Iron I can swap some chrome wheel and tires out from another Tom Daniel kit like the Garbage truck.
