Restored Revell 50 Austin gasser

I finally got this car finished ! This was a gluebomb that I got from Todd . Like all these early Revell kits, the are a small 1/25 scale and the plastic is so brittle you cant look at it sideways without it breaking . I wanted it to look box art stock, and I was able to get close with the sponsor decals ; the pinstripe decal I believe were from the Revell 48 Ford custom kit and the gauge decals came from the parts box.I left the drag chute off ;the instructions point to the trunk as the location, but it was supposed to go on the lower panel where I had already clear coated a decal and the chute wont sit on the curve of the trunk. The highlights for this build were the fabricating door hinges that actually worked, and the flip nose which needed some modifying. The low part was I was unable to make the kit steer again as the original builder glued the spindles and there was no way to repair them. Still , with all the heartaches ( and quite a bit of swearing) it really was a lot of fun, and thanks to Todd it got me out of a slump !

Now that's special! First of all, it's a great save of a gluebomb which I suspect most of us would have just pilfered for parts (at best!). Second, it's the best box art build of the kit I've seen in a long time (whether starting with a gluebomb or a NIB kit) and, hurrah, you solved the decal problem which drove me nuts when I first built the kit as a kid - for me, that pinstriping was an integral part of the whole front end look, so why leave it out?

About as good as it gets in my book.

Thanks for the compliments ! I agree, the pinstripes should have been included as it looks odd without it, IMHO. The decal sheet doesn't even have all the decals that the artwork shows, and all of them are way to big to the actual scale of the kit. Using all of them would cover the whole side of the car ! Luckily I was able to find smaller versions of most of them in my decal box. I was looking to replace the headlights as well; I dont understand why they had the odd covers but show headlights in the box art. I'm really happy with the way it turned out and now its going into one of those AMT showcases, where it will stay - these are so fragile I never want to have to dust it ! LOL

Thanks ! I agree, of all the reissues of this kit I think the kit looks best in green. The color is Testor's Extreme Lacquer Lime Ice with a clear coat.
