but I think I might be onto something here. It's 1/9 scale and the motor is a 500 GP Triumph (100% photo etched/ white metal), frame is from the old Italeri 350 Triumph and the forks are from a Protar Ducati. What could possibly go wrong?

COOL!! I had one in the late 1960's. I think it was late 40's early 50's it had a factory hardtail with a factory internally rear wheel, 500 with twin Amals, T T Cam and 10.5 compression. Used to eat 900 Sportsters and Bonneville's for lunch, so I'll be following this one. Paul

Thanks Paul, plan is to run twin tanks up top - one for oil and one for petrol/ gas (like the old Harley 45s) - to keep everything really decluttered around the engine. I know that causes a few problem in the real world but, hey, this is a model so who cares?

I know that causes a few problem in the real world but, hey, this is a model so who cares? Would not cause issues in my world, it's only a few hard oil lines. 100% better idea than the 650 Trophy I had with a leaky in frame oil tank. ;(

I know that causes a few problem in the real world but, hey, this is a model so who cares? Would not cause issues in my world, it's only a few hard oil lines. 100% better idea than the 650 Trophy I had with a leaky in frame oil tank. ;( A friend ran this set up many years ago and hit two problems - one easy to fix, the other not so much. Problem No. 1 was that the oil side of the tank would get really hot and make it uncomfortable to have your leg/ knee rest against it, fixed by putting rubber knee pads back onto the tank. Problem No. 2 was a result of cutting the original tank in half, fabricating a central divider and then welding it back together, unlike the Harley tanks which had a physical gap between the two tanks. Upshot was that on really hot days (OK, not that common over here) the heat from the oil side of the tank would extend into the petrol side so much that the resulting petrol vapour couldn't all escape via the vent in the cap, pressurised the tank and forced fuel past the float in the carb. Weirdly, swapping to two carbs (and avoiding really hot days) seemed to cure it!

Epic build underway here, love the details/wiring etc. Wow. One of the great things about big scale bikes is that it's not so hard to get the details sorted - especially, like here, when there isn't going to be a lot of wiring anyway!
