I've have about a zillion different sand/dune buggys/rails in my stash, about time I built some. I've had the original 5 old AMT kits forever, figured I'd finally get around to building those. Some of those are quite rare, but I thought I'd start with the only one that's been reissued, and work up from there. This is the AMT Sandkat, original, reissued in 2021. You'll note it's the same chassis setup that's used in the Piranha, the Mr. Speed Stude F/C, and the Scorpion...possibly others that I can't recall off the top of my head. I built it pretty much boxart style; two things to note. The instructions show the gas tank being placed in the rear near the engine, but the boxart clearly shows it up front on the frame- I went with the boxart. The other thing; one of my two pet peeves in models is when kits come with headers that you have to build pipe-by-pipe (the other being those crappy two-piece plastic tires that Revell loved to put in most of their models- I hate those, I just throw them away), a pain in the ass, when they could have just as easily designed it with one piece headers. So, I replaced the headers with ones that are almost, but not quite the same. Good enough for me. Paint is Tamiya Yellow. As usual, no wiring or detail. I don't care much for things like display stands or cardboard backgrounds, so I just left that unused in the box. Sorry for the different lighting, I had something to do, and so the pics were taken at two different times of the day.

Nice work Dave! Great to see rare (OK, I know this one's a reissue but they're still hardly ever seen in built up form), off the wall, stuff like this! Now, where's that crash helmet and goggles?

Looks good Dave really like your colour choice I have the reissue l didn't think it would turn out that nice And of course you kept Harley happy with a engine shot ( like you had a choice 😀😀😀)

Between the boxart and the build itself, I don't think I had much choice in color OR pleasing Harley! LOL! The original and the reissue is the same; when I have more than one, I prefer to build the original, usually crisper and less flash.

Nice build Dave, I can't remember how many times I've seen this chassis underneath a model. but I don't remember seeing one as nice as this. Great work sir.
