I finally got around to building one of my Monogram Futuristas. Rick and I had talked about how we would do this (he had a builder he was going to restore), debating whether to polish the plastic, paint like the box art, or original car. I decided to paint it like the real car, which was an Iced (Pearl) White. I used Tamiya Pearl White and Pearl Clear. I prefer to put the body together as a whole, fill seams and paint, but that's not easily done here, so, paint and assemble after. All of mine were mint kits, so it didn't matter which one I built. Box stock, with just paint details here and there. The front wheel wasn't chrome like the back ones, but should be- so I masked the whitewall and shot it with Revell Chrome (I LOVE that stuff!). Just a couple of fit problems; when going to glue the rear upper body to the bottom, the top of the interior next to the pillar needed to be shaved almost an 1/8 wide by almost 1/4 long on both sides, to allow the joining of the body parts. Also, the interior part that surrounds the engine rides too high for the glass to properly meet the body; so I improvised, and cut tiny pieces of flat clear sprue, wedged and glued them onto the inside bottom edge where the rear of the glass meets the body; end result, you can't see the fix, and the glass now rests properly on the body, as it should. Also, the glass hinge at the front bubble was too tight, I had to both shave the opening some, and the glass hinge, to get the glass to lay right. In addition to the option of the door openings, the wheels roll, working steering, and the engine is removable if you wish; comes with a little stand to put together, if you want to display it separately. I thought it turned out pretty well. Hope you like it- comments welcome!
